I never cared that much, I have more than one deviantart account to separate the stuff but I'm not subtle about it really, you could tell I'm the same guy pretty easily, I usually just keep it to myself otherwise and have it in oriented in one area like this account. My friends know about it and I think my family do to, but if I do get asked I just say "it's my thing." I've never shown images to anybody unless they ask to see them.
